Ammonia trials release extra capacity at Poole treatment centre
Ammonia trials release extra
capacity at Poole treatment centre
'Over the past six months Organic Waste together
with the operational and scientific staff have been focusing on the
operations at Poole and Holdenhurst treatment centres. Both of
these sites are important to local waste management companies and
it is important that they operate efficiently and make the most of
what capacity is safely available.'
Poole has always been a sensitive site with regard to
ammonia levels and as such has always had cautious limits imposed.
However recent trials that started in early December 2009 involving
on site ammonia testing and monitoring has enabled the site to
safely increase the daily capacity levels by up to 25%. During the
trial the effect of this increase will be monitored across all the
other site processes..
In the past, when the ammonia sampling results were retrospective,
capacity levels were, quite naturally, erring on the careful side.
The new operating regime, currently under review, not only allows
for an overall capacity increase but empowers the staff to be able
to make proactive calls to potential customers informing them of
and when capacity is available - on a daily basis..
To fully utilise the new 'live on-site' system, performance
monitoring and detailed logs of deliveries and cancellations have
been introduced.
Kerry Fleet, supervisor, commented: "Providing our booking system
is used correctly and customers remember to inform us of
cancellations and any other delivery problems then we can be more
proactive and inform them at really short notice when we have the
extra capacity they so often need."
