Cancellation failure fees to be introduced in the New Year

Despite the industrial and commercial wastes booking system having been around for some considerable time, Organic Waste is still experiencing very high levels of booking errors - the most common being the failure to cancel loads that have been booked.

From 1 January 2012, failure to cancel or failure to deliver booked loads into the Bristol treatment centre will attract a £50 charge per load booked and this will be automatically added to the monthly transaction report. Under normal circumstances a 'failure to cancel' charge will be raised if the cancellation is made after 10am on the expected day of arrival.

It is not uncommon for some companies booking errors to be in excess of 30%, and not difficult to understand the negative impact on customers who have bookings rejected, or on the efficiency of the Organic Waste business.

OW-winter11-2Pre-delivery booking information for industrial and commercial loads enables Organic Waste staff to make the very best of the capacities that are available at the treatment centre. Daily treatment load calculations are based on the booking information and it is on the confidence of this information that staff can ensure the greatest number of customers are able to use the treatment facilities, whilst at the same time safeguarding the sewage treatment works.

The consequences of high rates of failure to cancel bookings are:

  • customers bookings being refused that could have been accepted
  • loss of treatment volume that could be made available
  • increased administration time and cost for all parties trying to establish if loads will, or will not, be delivered
  • the cost of inefficient logistics all the way from the producer -if they are at fault - right through to the treatment centre
  • not being able to run the treatment centre at full potential
  • loss of income for all parties.

If you have a problem with the booking system, or have any suggestions that will improve the system, please do not hesitate to call the Organic Waste office on 01225 524560 where the staff will assist you, in what ever way they can, in order to make the system work efficiently for you.

If you would like to know the booking error statistics for your company, again please call the Organic Waste team on 01225 524560.

Rachel Creed, Organic Waste manager commented: 'Good administration of the booking system is at the very core of making the best of what we have for the benefit of your business. The efficient operation of this system is vital if we are to continue to improve our services, keep costs under control and meet our  customers ever growing needs.'
